Can you feel that shift in the air? In Houston, we know the signs: the humidity is starting to creep in, the evenings are staying lighter just a little bit longer, and there’s a collective urge to shed the heavy layers of winter, both the clothes and the mental weight.
For the high-achieving woman, summer often triggers a specific kind of internal alarm. It’s the "Summer Body" panic. We start thinking about deadlines, social calendars, and how we’re going to "optimize" our fitness to fit into that specific dress or feel confident at the pool. But I want to challenge you to look at this season differently this year.
Instead of a frantic "fix-it" project, what if this summer was about a Glow-Up that actually lasts? I’m talking about a reconnection with your body that goes deeper than skin deep. It’s about moving because it feels good, nourishing yourself because you deserve energy, and reclaiming your power after a long season of grinding.
The Myth of the "Summer Body"
Let’s get one thing straight: you already have a summer body. The high-achiever trap is believing that we have to earn our right to enjoy the sunshine by hitting a certain number on the scale or achieving a specific level of muscle definition.
When we approach fitness as a chore or a punishment for what we ate over the holidays, we disconnect. We stop listening to what our bodies actually need and start following rigid rules that lead straight to burnout. If your current routine feels like a grind, it’s probably time to pivot. You can read more about why your old fitness routine might not be working anymore and how to find a more holistic path.
A true glow-up isn’t about restriction; it’s about renewal. It’s about looking in the mirror and feeling a sense of partnership with your body rather than a sense of war.

Reconnection Starts with the Nervous System
As a high-achiever, your "go-go-go" mindset is your superpower, but it can also be your biggest obstacle to true wellness. When we stay in a state of high stress, our nervous systems are constantly on high alert. This leads to inflammation, poor sleep, and a total disconnect from our physical sensations.
Reconnecting with your body means learning how to dial down that "fight or flight" response. This is why I advocate for a holistic approach to wellness that prioritizes the nervous system. When you learn to handle stress from the inside out, your body naturally begins to "glow" because it’s no longer running on fumes.
If you’ve been feeling crispy around the edges lately, it’s worth exploring how a holistic program focused on the nervous system can change the way you handle stress. This is the foundation of the summer glow-up. When your internal systems are calm, your external energy is magnetic.
Mindful Movement: Taking it Outdoors
There is something transformative about moving your body under the sun. Vitamin D, fresh air, and a change of scenery can do more for your mental health than a thousand hours on a basement treadmill.
For many of my clients, the "glow-up" happens when they stop viewing exercise as a solitary task to check off a list and start viewing it as a way to build community. This is why I am so passionate about the Stryd Walk Club.
Walking is often underrated by high-achievers because it doesn’t feel "hard enough," but the benefits for body reconnection are unparalleled. It allows you to be present, to breathe, and to connect with other like-minded women. If you’re looking for a sign to change your routine, joining a community walking group like Stryd will change the way you see fitness.

Dance Your Way into Summer Energy
If walking is the grounding force of your summer glow-up, then dancing is the celebratory peak. There is no better way to reconnect with your joy than through movement that feels like a party.
This summer, I’m bringing the energy to the heart of Houston, and I want you there with me. Dancing helps us get out of our heads and into our bodies, it’s the ultimate form of presence.
Here is where you can find me for Zumba this season:
First Thursday of every month: Join me at Post Houston for an epic session under the skyline. It’s vibrant, it’s loud, and the energy is unmatched.
Every other Thursday of the month: I’ll be at Trebly Park (Houston, TX) at 6:30 PM. It’s the perfect way to shake off the workday and step into your weekend vibes early.

Nourishing the Glow: More Than Just Water
We hear it all the time: "Drink more water." And while hydration is key for that summer skin glow, reconnection nutrition is about more than just hitting your gallon goal. It’s about listening to your hunger cues and fueling your body with foods that make you feel vibrant, not sluggish.
During the sunny season, focus on:
Hydrating Foods: Think watermelon, cucumbers, and citrus. These provide cellular hydration that keeps your energy levels stable.
Mindful Eating: As high-achievers, we often eat at our desks or on the go. This summer, try to eat at least one meal a day without a screen in front of you. Notice the textures, the flavors, and how your body feels as you get full.
Prosecco and Presence: Yes, you can have the toast! Reconnecting with your body means moving away from the "all or nothing" mentality. Whether it’s a Pilates and Prosecco event or a backyard BBQ, focus on the joy of the experience rather than the "rules" of the diet.

5 Practical Tips for Body Reconnection
If you’re feeling a bit lost on where to start, don’t worry. Reclaiming your inner power is a journey, not a destination. Here are five simple ways to start your summer glow-up today:
Morning Sunlight: Get outside within 30 minutes of waking up. This resets your circadian rhythm and boosts your mood instantly.
The "Body Scan": Set an alarm for 2:00 PM every day. Take 60 seconds to close your eyes and scan your body from toe to head. Where are you holding tension? Breathe into it and let it go.
Ditch the Metrics for a Day: Once a week, go for a walk or a workout without your fitness tracker. Listen to your heart rate and your breath instead of the beeps on your wrist.
Prioritize Sleep: You cannot glow if you are exhausted. Treat your sleep like the high-stakes meeting it is.
Community over Competition: Surround yourself with women who empower you. Whether it’s through networking through movement or a local class, your environment dictates your growth.

Why Now is Your Time
May is a month of massive transition. It’s the bridge between the planning of spring and the execution of summer. For me, it’s also a month of personal celebration (hello, birthday season!), and I want to invite you to treat this month as your own personal launchpad.
You don't need a "new you" for the summer. You just need to find the real you: the one that isn't buried under a mountain of to-do lists and "shoulds."
When you choose to reconnect with your body, you’re making a statement. You’re saying that your well-being matters more than your productivity. You’re saying that you are worthy of feeling good in your skin right now, exactly as you are.
